Here are some helpful, healthy spiritual habits to cultivate in order to be effective catechists.
Not necessarily in this order
- Familiarise yourself with the New Revised Liturgy
- Read the Holy Bible daily
- Read spiritual books - example the Catechism of the Catholic Church
- Read the Catechism of the Catholic Church selectively based on the topic you are teaching.
- Make time for daily personal prayer
- Go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation regularly
- Attend the celebration of Holy Mass as often as possible apart from the weekly obligation
- Pray the Holy Rosary and make time for daily family prayer
- Take time to prepare yourself thoroughly on the topic you are going to teach.
- Pray for the children in your class, for their families and for your co-teacher every day.
- Smile. Don't take yourself too seriously. Relax and let the Holy Spirit be your guide.
- Set a good example always wherever you may be.
God bless.
